The Semiotics of Dressing

Marni, in partnership with Jacqueline Sullivan Gallery, presented an exclusive installation of The Semiotics of Dressing at Marni’s recently opened Design District boutique during Miami Art Week.

At the center of this experience is the dressing room: an open stage where established routines and developed preferences come to articulate a distinct personal identity. Fundamental to the act of dressing is the process of folding and unfolding, of seeing clothing in full and then rearranging it back into a contained, sculptural form. To reinforce this ritualistic act, artworks and objects from The Semiotics of Dressing will be placed in direct conversation with archetypal pieces from the Marni, a Prologue collection, displayed to show the different, successive stages of folding.

Featuring work by contemporary artists Hermann Becker and Zoé Mohm, alongside historic pieces of furniture and objects of display, this collaboration highlights the synchronicity between Jacqueline Sullivan Gallery and Marni’s latest evolution, revealing the enduring importance of the boutique itself as a space where exploration and experimentation can unfold.
